Uncover Sacred Scripture for Yourself
Unveil the original meanings beneath the text   alongside a supportive community of seekers
Scripture can still speak truth, but its voice is often buried beneath thousands of years of translation, tradition, interpretation, and time that have veiled its voice and narrowed its meaning.
Veiled Roots is a community of scholars, linguists, teachers, and students who want to dig deeper. Together, we trace the language, history, culture, and ancient context behind the text to uncover what has been there all along.
The roots are there. The veil can be lifted. And the story is still unfolding.

Does your scripture study feel difficult or incomplete?
Sometimes scripture feels difficult because we are reading an ancient text through our modern assumptions. Thousands of years can separate us from its language, culture, symbols, history, and patterns of thought. Translation helps bridge that distance, but it doesn't carry every layer of meaning with it.Â
Have you ever felt:
A sense that something essential is missing from the story you were taught
Questions about women, authority, and partnership that never received satisfying answers
A longing for scripture to feel whole rather than fragmented or flattened
Tension between standard interpretations and your spiritual intuition
Scripture asks us to learn how to read in context
The Church of Jesus Christ’s Old Testament Student Manual teaches that understanding scripture requires us to place ourselves as much as possible in the setting of those who wrote it:
Do you read the Scriptures … as though you stood in the place of the men who wrote them?
— Brigham Young, Old Testament Student Manual: Genesis–2 Samuel, Introduction 1-13
Before asking what a passage means to us today, we have to first learn to ask what its language meant when it was written, what cultural assumptions shaped it, and what its original audience would have understood from it.
Â
This is where Veiled Roots begins
We trace scripture through language, history, culture, translation, and sacred patterns to recover context that centuries of distance can make difficult to see.
Â
A Different Way of Seeing
Veiled Roots is built on a simple but transformative premise:
Scripture was written in a conceptual language—one that carries layers of meaning we often flatten when we read it through modern eyes.
When we return to original languages and ancient idioms, we see new truths emerge:
God is relational and rooted in divine partnership
Authority is expressed through calling and partnership, rather than hierarchy
Sacred roles are clarified through ancient language and patterns
We are returning to what has been there all along.Â
Tracing the language, history, and context helps recover layers of meaning that time and translation have obscured.Â
This is the work of restoration - returning to the roots of the text.
Â
What is Veiled Roots?
Veiled Roots is a teaching platform and learning community started by Jared Lambert, a historical linguist with seven degrees who is fluent in eight languages. Jared began his career as a military linguist in the United States Army and later served as the Supervising Linguist over Sacred Materials for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He is now completing his PhD, with his research focused on the development of religious ideas, language, and scripture over time.Â
His word brings together historical linguistics, ancient language, history, translation, and temple theology to help people read scripture with greater context and depth. Veiled Roots grew out of that work and has become a community for people to want to dig deeper, ask better questions, and learn how to trace the roots of the text for themselves.

“I’m not a scholar. I don’t know Hebrew.”
You don’t need to.
Veiled Roots is built to guide you into the language, not test you on it. The goal is understanding, not expertise.
“I’m worried this might disrupt my faith.”
Veiled Roots does not exist to dismantle belief.
It exists to restore depth, coherence, and balance within the faith many already love.
“I don’t have time for something this deep.”
Depth does not require urgency.
Most offerings are designed to meet you where you are and allow you to move at a sustainable pace.
“Why are some offerings paid?”
Jared believes deeply in making scripture study accessible to all. Many resources and teachings are offered for free so anyone can explore, learn, and engage without barriers.
Paid offerings help sustain the work—supporting the structure, live engagement, and resources needed to create a space where sacred topics can be studied with care and attention. They ensure the community has ongoing access to thoughtful, high-quality study experiences.
